SUKKUR, Sept 22: A large number of amenity plots worth billions of rupees have been occupied in the city by the builders backed by MNAs, MPAs, bureaucracy and nazims. The builders are involved in constructing big commercial complexes over these plots.
At present, a commercial complex is under construction on a revenue plot belonging to the Sindh government and all government agencies were tight-lipped over the issue.
No one bothers to ask that when the builders purchased the plot from the government and who granted permission for constructing commercial complex on the plot.
To avoid any intervention, the construction work of the complex was continuing round the clock.
Information so far collected in this regard reveals that the former taluka nazim had written a letter to the Sindh government, informing that the plot in question was the property of board of revenue and demanded documents so that the plan of the commercial complex could be approved.
The board of revenue, Sindh, did not reply and the builder succeeded in getting approval of the plan of commercial complex after greasing the palms of the responsible while high civil, judiciary and army officials played a vital role in this connection.
According to a survey conducted by Dawn the plot worth billions of rupees which is situated in city center and its portion measuring 922 square yards was purchased by one Dr Ghulam Nabi Shujrah from the then deputy commissioner Sukkur at the rate of Rs2 per feet in the year 1971 and the deputy commissioner put the condition that the plot will not be used for constructing commercial complex, other wise it would be cancelled.
The plot remained vacate since 1971 to 2005 and no construction was done over it.
During the period, Dr Ghulam Nabi Shujrah died and the plot was transferred in the names of his legal heirs.
But recently construction of commercial complex has been started over the plot while another nearby plot which is the property of Sindh board of revenue has also been occupied and construction was under way.
It astonishes that the Sindh board of revenue was tight- lipped over the issue and no one questioning the builder how and why he have occupied the nearby plot and how the taluka municipal council approved the plan of the commercial complex as the buyer of the plot Dr Ghulam Nabi Shujrah was told that if commercial complex were constructed over the plot then its allotment would be cancelled.
The plot is situated nearby the office of the EDO revenue and neither the EDO revenue nor any other government officials have taken notice so far.
The citizens of the city have demanded that the Sindh board of revenue should take notice of the illegal construction over its plot and take concrete measures to avoid any such occupation over its precious plots.
