ISLAMABAD: A third consignment of 69,000 metric tonnes imported wheat from Ukraine docked at Karachi Port on Thursday.

With the latest arrival, a total of 195,000 metric tonnes of imported wheat has landed in the country since August, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR).

Experts at the federal department of plant protection carried out the mandatory quarantine inspection of the ‘MV Coventy’ vessel on Thursday to check for biosecurity risks. Discharge of wheat from the vessel was instantly granted to vessel after satisfactory phytosanitary examination.

The ministry said that it is in close liaison with the concerned provincial authorities to ensure unhindered movement of wheat cargoes from Karachi to other parts of the country. More wheat import vessels are scheduled to dock at Karachi port in the next few days.
