LPC adopts measures to prevent disease

LAHORE, Sept 20: The Lahore Polo Club (LPC) has clarified that horses infected with Glanders disease will not be returning to the club. According to a spokesman for the LPC on Tuesday, the LPC has furthermore pointed out that the club had adopted all possible measures to eliminate the disease.

He said that out of 330 horses stabled at the club, a few tested positive and were subsequently sent to University of Agriculture, Faisalabad for isolation, experimental treatment and research. “Rest of the horses were evacuated and sent to other places to prevent them from the disease,” he added. The spokesman said that Glanders was a common disease in South Asia.

Revealing the use of infection, he said, horses which were being used to bring in supplies to the club were the main reason for causing infection.

He said that all those horses which were not infected with the disease would have to undergo necessary tests before returning to the club.
