ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: Results of the German elections will not affect Pakistan-German relations as these are based on mutual respect and will continue to grow in future.

This was stated by newly-appointed German Ambassador to Pakistan Guntar Mulack.

Talking to this agency here at the embassy, the ambassador said elections in Germany would not bring any major change in the foreign policy. Specially these elections would not affect the bilateral relations with Pakistan in any way, he added.

Mr Mulack, who will present his credentials to President Gen Pervez Musharraf on September 26, said cordial relations between Pakistan and Germany would continue and the results of the German elections would not have any effect on these relations.

The ambassador said it was just a coincidence that German and Afghan elections were held on the same day and added there was no similarity in these elections.

He, however, expressed satisfaction over the peaceful completion of the elections in Afghanistan and appreciated the efforts of Pakistan to ensure peace on the day of polling.

He lauded the measures taken by law enforcement agencies of Pakistan to seal the border with Afghanistan, but said it was very difficult to stop movement at the porous and rugged border between the two countries.

He said a trade delegation, comprising leading businessmen and investors from Germany, would visit Pakistan in December this year to further explore possibilities and opportunities to promote trade and economic relations.

The embassy has made elaborate arrangements to provide first-hand information about the German elections, held on September 18, to the media and other intellectuals invited to the embassy.

Mr Mulack and other staff of the embassy, including the newly appointed head of media and public diplomacy section Andreas Von Brandt, were available to answer any query about the elections.—APP
