ISLAMABAD: The Youth Forum for Kashmir (YFK) on Saturday organised an exhibition titled Kashmir Through Art showcasing works of art that depict life in the India-held Kashmir during the lockdown.

The works shed light on new dimensions towards lobbying and activism for Kashmir.

Art lovers joined Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari at the launch of the event.

Dr Mazari, who was chief guest at the event, highlighted the need to introduce diversity and richness of culture into Kashmiri activism as an intrinsic part of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

She said that there was a need to promote “culture of resistance” so the cause could be highlighted at an international level.

“We need to identify new tools of diplomacy and get rid of old and traditional means,” the minister said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, she said, has developed an effective narrative for the Kashmir cause at an international level and people must take it forward.

The culture of Kashmir is rich and we must promote the Kashmir cause through its music, films and art, she added.

Other speakers and artists emphasised upon using art to bring attention towards Indian atrocities during lock down in India-held Kashmir.

Faiza Ghani, won the first prize while Saadia Umer Khayam and Zainul Abadin won the second and third prizes in the competition. More than 100 paintings were received from all over the country. The paintings reflected skills and techniques used by famous artists, students and persons from all walks of life.

A large number of people attended the exhibition.
