RAWALPINDI: A man was killed and three others injured during a wedding in Allama Iqbal Colony, when a guest opened fire with an automatic rifle, allegedly over a minor dispute with other guests, on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Malik Manzar, a friend of the groom Amir, who was also shot and injured in the shooting.

The deceased and the injured were taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital by Rescue 1122, while the police have arrested one suspect.

A police contingent led by Senior Superintendent Mohammad Faisal Kamran also visited the crime scene to collect evidence and record eyewitness statements.

The city police officer’s spokesperson Sub-Inspector Sajjadul Hassan told the press that the police have registered a murder case and arrested one suspect nominated in the case. He said raids are ongoing to arrest other suspects who fled.

He said the incident took place due to a brawl during the wedding’s mehndi event, and the groom has been included in the investigation.
