JUP for action in mosque land grab

LAHORE, Sept 19: The JUP has threatened to hold protest demonstrations if the government does not accept by Friday its demands regarding action against land-grabbers.

Speaking at a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Monday, provincial secretary-general Qari Zawwar Bahadur said the government should immediately act against the accused who tried to occupy a piece of land owned by a mosque, Markaz Al-Islami, on the Walton Road here on Sunday.

He also demanded release of the prayer leader “illegally” taken into custody by Gujrat police and discharge of the case registered against the mosque management committee.

Qari Zawwar said that he too along with three members of the committee had been implicated in a kidnap for ransom case by the Gujrat police.

The Gujrat police reportedly picked up prayer leader Hafiz Naseer Ahmad Noorani on Sunday. A group of people accompanying the police team started tearing down boundary walls of the mosque to occupy its land measuring nine kanals.

Their attempt, however, was thwarted as the area people gathered on the scene, making the grabbers to flee.

He accused chief minister’s adviser Naeem Raza of supporting the land-grabbers.
