DADU, Sept 19: Record line losses of 38.9 million KWH were recovered in five circles of Hesco in August 2005. The Dadu operation division was at the top where 48.8 per cent line losses were recorded.
According to a statement of Hesco, company’s Hyderabad circle-I sustained 36.4 per cent loss as the circle received 145.8 million KWH but billed 92.69 million KWH to consumers while during the last year’s August loss was 36 per cent.
The Hyderabad circle-I comprises five operation divisions, wherein the Gari Khata division sustained loss of 39.2 per cent, Tando Allahyar 29.5 per cent, Latifabad 36.3 per cent, Mirpurkhas 37.6 per cent and Digri 35.3 per cent.
Hesco’s Hyderabad circle-II received 127.43 million KWH, but billed 86.01 million KWH units to consumers hence sustained 32.5 per cent losses.
The Hyderabad circle-II comprises four operation divisions.
The Kotri division received 51.06 million KWH units but 42.22 million KWH units were sold to consumers hence 17.3 per cent loss was recorded.
Kotri and Nooriabad sub-divisions of Hesco are important for they have large industrial areas.
The Phulelli division received 15.84 million KWH units and sold 10.28 million KWH units with 35.1 per cent loss.
The Tando Muhammad Khan operation division received 18.83 million KWH units and sold 12.17 million KWH units where 35.3 per cent loss was recorded.
The Dadu operation division received 41.71 million KWH units and sold 21.34 million units while 48.8 per cent loss was shown in the record.
The Dadu operation division is native area of minister for water and power Mr Liaquat Ali Jatoi but it stood at top in the circle in losses.
However, no action was taken against any officer.
It was interesting to note that the Mehar sub-division sustained 53 per cent loss in August.
Four operation divisions of the Nawabshah circle received 123.99 million KWH units and sold 78.10 million which resulted into 37 per cent losses.
Five operation divisions of the Sukkur circle received 128.87 million KWH units and sold 76.7 million. A loss of 40.5 per cent was recorded.
The Larkana circle received 655.86 million KWH units, sold 400.74 KWH units, while a loss of 38.9 per cent was recorded.
The detection bills were issued to 29,535 domestic consumers for 19.612 KWH million units.
In the commercial sector, 994 consumers were issued detection bills for 870 units.
In the industrial sector, 116 consumers were issued detection bills of 1.134 million KWH units.
In the tube-well sector, 150 consumers were issued detection bills for 964 units.
Hesco chief Adeebul Hassan Rizvi retired in June 2005, however, new chief Maqbool Khwaja failed to control losses.
The spokesman for Hesco Mohammad Sadiq told Dawn that on directives of the Hesco chief, Maqbool Ahmed Khwaja, a task force headed by the director commercial Hesco, Khurshid Shah, was constituted to take action against power thefts.
He said the task force had disconnected hundreds of illegal connections and as a result 12,639 consumers got legal connections.
STRIKE: On the call of the Government Secondary Teachers Association, teachers boycotted their schools to protest against girls’ head mistress of the Government Middle School Khairpur Nathan Shah.
The teachers led by the taluka president of the GSTA, Moosa Gadhi, staged demonstration.
They said the head mistress was posted due to political influence and she had reportedly embezzled salary of ten teachers.
