Sindh refutes federal minister’s statement on gas

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh on Tuesday refuted a statement given by federal Minister for Energy Umar Ayub Khan about gas production in the country.

Talking to Dawn, he said as per the statistics of the Petroleum Division gas production in the country was 3.94 billion cubic feet daily (bcfd), while Sindh produced 2.54 bcfd or 64.5 per cent of the total.

“As per the statistics given by the federal government, Sindh uses 1.74 bcfd out of 2.54 bcfd it produces,” he added.

The provincial energy minister said Sindh would not have much excess gas next year which could be provided to other provinces.

He said on an average basis Sindh purchased 0.9 to 1 bcfd of gas daily.

Mr Sheikh said the gas supplied by the Sui Southern Gas Company was used more in January and February due to winter season.

He said that supplying gas produced in Sindh to other parts of the country without the permission of the provincial government was a violation of Article 158 of the Constitution.

ppp needs to control itself we are all pakistani our resources are for all pakistan. Needs to stop playing provincial victim card as it will create divisions in the nation only for temporary political gain.

Sind minister should come out his illusions on domestic gas production and that produced in Sind, this year shortfall is 1.6bcf, by 2025 >6.5bcf..... Technically, Sind facing gas shortage in towns but now in karachi too, KE is right too on reduced supply instead to meet their committed 350 mmscfd gas by SSGC. Gas shortage is now a national issue, ways should be rationalized and implemented to meet shortfall and import... So no point crying LION, LION is at the door already.

OK Sindh produces 64.5% of Gas, while 90% of Sindh Revenue is generated from Karachi, then why discrimination against Karachiiites.

@Sairbeen plus., Ms. Sairbeen plus, "OK Sindh produces 64.5% of Gas, while 90% of Sindh Revenue is generated from Karachi, then why discrimination against Karachiiites." Discrimination has created Bangladesh but all the past and present federal and provincial governments haven't learnt any lesson.

Because all the past and present federal and provincial governments haven't learnt anything from the creation of Bangladesh. This is the bitter truth which is very difficult to digest. Unfortunately.
