GUJRANWALA, Sept 17: A summary to shift the district mail centre from General Post Office to Wazirabad has been forwarded to the government for approval by senior officials of the post office. Dawn learnt here on Saturday that the government had launched a new system of sorting out mail at district headquarters following abolishing the old railway mail service some years ago.

While the district mail centre in Gujranwala was working at GPO building on GT Road near the old city railway station, he said and added: “Now this office is being shifted to Wazirabad tehsil headquarters and all mail relating to other cities will be sent there for distribution.”

Meanwhile, the business community, citizens and staff of the mail office have protested against its proposed shifting, apprehending delay in distribution system.

When contacted, Chief Post Master Masood Ahmad said the divisional superintendent had come here some days back and collected necessary information regarding the shifting, but the final decision had not so far been taken. held: Police on Saturday arrested a bank officer in Ghakkhar Mandi for trying to withdraw Rs5 million fraudulently.

Sajjad Ahmad was attempting to draw the heavy amount. On suspicion, the manager contacted the head office in Karachi which declared the advice bogus.

On the report of the manager, police have arrested the accused after registering a forgery case against him.

Further investigation is under way. rejected: The nomination papers of two aspirants for peasant seats and one for the women’s in Naushera Virkan town were rejected by the returning officer concerned on Saturday.

The RO rejected the papers of Rana Mohammad Afzal, Mohammad Shahbaz and Iram Bibi after hearing the objections raised by their respective rivals.

The aspirants said they would file an appeal before district and sessions judge against the decision shortly.
