Efforts fail to recover kidnap victim

LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Sept 16: Efforts by the political administration, Bara Peace Committee activists and local elders to recover kidnapped committee leader Maulana Ahmad Khan have so far failed to yield any result.

The Maulana, who is also the Khyber Agency chief of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, was abducted on August 11 from his house in the Shalobar area by unknown armed men.

The authorities and the activists could not found any trace of him despite sending a number of teams to the remote Tirah valley over the past one month.

Frustrated by their fruitless efforts, the new leader of the peace committee, Maulana Nusrat Amin, announced on last Sunday amnesty for the unknown kidnappers.

The amnesty deadline expires on Sept 18 but no one has either made contact with the peace committee or taken responsibility for the abduction so far.

In a related development, the Bara Tajir Ittehad held a protest demonstration, demanding early recovery of the kidnap victim.

Meanwhile, the committee activists burnt the house of a shopkeeper of the New Market, Rashid, who had allegedly killed another shopkeeper, Gulay, last week. Rashid, however, has remained at large.
