Islamia Club teams in semis

KARACHI, Sept 15: Two teams of Islamia Club were among the four who advanced in to the men’s team event semifinals of the Karachi table tennis championship after winning their respective matches at their own premises on late Wednesday.

Both the teams won their matches in contrasting styles. While Islamia ‘A’ overcome fighting Creek Club 3-2, their second string had the better of Hasanabad Club 3-1.

The other two outfits who were through to the last four were Sunset Club ‘A’ who accounted for Sharfabad Club ‘B’ 3-2 and Sharfabad ‘A’ who trounced Hasanabad Club 3-1.

Sunset Club ‘A’ is drawn to meet Islamia Club ‘A while Sharfabad Club ‘A’ is pitted against Isamia Club ‘B’ in the two semifinals.

Islamia Club ‘A’ and Jamia Millia ‘A’ qualified to meet each other in the women team event final after winning their pre-finals. The former edged out Jamia Millia ‘B’ 3-0 while the latter chalked up a 3-1 win over Hasanabad Club.

Results:

Men team event (Quarterfinals): Sunset Club ‘A’ bt Sharfabad Club ‘B’ 3-2; Islamia Club ‘A’ bt Creek Club 3-2; Sharfabad Club ‘A’ bt Young Star ‘A’ 3-0; Islamia Club ‘B’ bt Hasanabad Club 3-1.

Women team event (semifinals): Islamia Club ‘A’ bt Jamia Millia ‘B’ 3-0; Jamia Millia ‘A’ bt Hasanabad Club 3-1.
