KARAK: The residents of Bahaderkhel union council here have expressed concern about the cracks having developed in the newly-constructed small dam in Lakray area and demanded it should be repaired immediately.

Speaking at a meeting on Monday, the elders said the dam had been completed with huge funds, but it had developed cracks, posing threat of floods to the local population if the structure was further weakened. They said the dam was built to boost agriculture sector and provide drinking water to the locals, so the cracks should be plugged before it was too late.

ANP THREATENS PROTEST: The local chapter of Awami National Party has warned to launch a protest campaign if the government did not reign in the corrupt officials in various government departments in the district.

The warning was made at a meeting of the ANP’s Karak district cabinet on Monday chaired by its president Shah Nawaz Khattak.

The participants alleged that substandard material was being used in development projects, but the elected representatives were unmoved.

They resolved to make accountable those involved in misuse of development funds. They pointed out the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had not released the oil and gas royalty funds to the district during the last five years.
