SUKKUR: Jacobabad police on Sunday recovered 1,200 kilograms of cannabis from secret compartments of a mini truck which was smuggling the huge amount of the drug to Karachi from Quetta.

Police stopped the truck coming from Quetta at a picket in Shambay Shah locality after receiving a tip-off and carried out its search only to find the huge cache of the contraband, said SSP Bashir Ahmed Brohi.

He said that police arrested two suspected smugglers identified as Mohammad Rasool Pathan and Gul Shah Pathan and impounded the vehicle. The drug’s value in international market was worth millions of rupees, he said.

He appreciated the police team and CIA officials who took part in the raid and recommended cash rewards for them.

Police have, meanwhile, lodged an FIR on behalf of state at Saddar police station against the suspects under Narcotics Act.
