KARACHI, Sept 14: The Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, has approved the summary initiated by the Sindh Education Department whereby requesting regularization of services of 3,023 contract primary schoolteachers working in various districts of the province.

According to a statement on Wednesday, 2,562 teachers were recruited against vacant posts in various districts by the Sindh Education Department in 2001 on contract basis for primary schools of the province.

The department by completing all formalities of written test and interviews, appointed those teachers purely on merit basis on contract period of three years. Their contract expired on May 23 this year.

Later, the Education Department requested the chief minister to extend the contract of the 3,023 primary schoolteachers for more than three years or to regularize to them.—APP
