BAJAUR: Transporters on Tuesday held a protest demonstration here to seek reasonable increase in fares on local routes in the wake of recent record hike in the oil prices.

The demonstration was held on the Khar-Mamond Road in Inayat Kallay Bazaar attended by owners and drivers of public transport in large numbers.

The transporters shouted slogans against the federal government for huge increase in the prices of petroleum products, and the local administration for not increasing the fares.

The protesters said the unexpected hike in the fuel prices had badly affected the public transporters.

They said they had approached the senior officials of the district administration for increase in the fares of public transport, but they had yet to make a decision in that regard.
