THE late Allama Talib Jauhari was a religious scholar of great ilk who strived tirelessly for the cause of sectarian harmony. He was born in 1940, in United Province in British India.

He received his initial education from his father, Allama Mustafa Jauhari. From the young age of eight he also started composing poetry. The family migrated to Pakistan in 1949. He left for Najaf in 1955 for higher studies in different branches of Islamic studies.

Talib Jauhari composed hundreds of marsias, rubaees and poems and was considered an authority owing to his knowledge about religious matters and the different arts.

He was a symbol of religious moderation, and the majalis he conducted would attract huge gatherings irrespective of the school of thought they followed as what he said was relevant to the occasion.

Allama Jauhari will be long-remembered for his services to the cause of thwarting sectarianism and promoting moderate religious thoughts.
