THIS is with reference to the letter ‘PTA obligations and users rights’ (June 17). As for service quality of broadband providers, PTA carries out regular surveys through its field offices, particularly in areas having consumer complaints against an operator or type of service.

On the basis of inspections, telecom operators are directed to improve the service. In view of complaints against Internet Service Providers (ISPs), PTA is in the process of redefining quality of service (QoS) parameters. Once finalised they will be used to bring further improvement in the ISPs’ services.

Internet and telecom users, facing service, billing or other issues may lodge formal complaint with their relevant operator or at PTA’s recently revamped Consumer Support Centre (CSC) at toll free number 0800-55055 (9.00am to 9.00pm, seven days a week). Every complaint received is taken care of and addressed as per defined timelines, and complainant can check progress at all stages.

PTA will consider suggestions made in the letter to bring any possible betterment.

Regarding the PTA ad on World Telecommunications and Information Society (WTIS) Day on May 17, the day is internationally celebrated each year. Pakistan, like other ITU member states, celebrates this day every year by arranging an event.

This year none such activity could take place owing to Covid-19 situation. PTA while considering importance of the WTIS decided to place a small ad to mark the international day and to highlight this year’s theme i.e. ‘Connect 2030: ICTs for the Sustainable Development Goals’ for the awareness of readers.
