PESHAWAR, Sept 12: Candidates backed by different electoral groups filed their nomination papers with the concerned returning officers for the office of city district Nazim and four town Nazims here on Monday.
In all 53 nomination papers were filed for different categories of seat including nazims of district and town councils, reserved seats for women, minorities, peasant and workers in the district and town councils. Tuesday is the last day for filing nomination papers.
Awami National Party and Jamaat-i-Islami, which entered into alliance, have fielded Haroon Balior for the slot of Nazim city district and submitted his papers with the concerned returning officer.
Haji Dost Mohammad, nominee of the JI backed Al-Khaidmat group submitted his papers for the office of Nazim Town-I. The two-party alliance have nominated Younus Jan Kafoordheri for the slot of Nazim Town-II.
Dr Iqbal Khalil filed his papers for the office of Nazim Town- III and Arbab Amir Ayub submitted his papers for the slot of Nazim Town-IV.
Mr Bilour and Dr Iqbal Khalil remained Nazim Town-I and Naib Nazim city district, respectively.
Haji Ghulam Ali, who is joint candidate of People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPP), Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao), PML (N) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) submitted his nomination papers for the slot of city district Nazim.
The four parties have struck a deal against the ANP and JI in the district.
The PPP-backed Haji Shaukat, Mohammad Sharif and Engineer Shakirullah filed their nomination papers for the slot of Nazim Town-i, Town-II and Town-III respectively. Major (Retd) Mohammad Iqbal, backed by JUI (F) submitted his papers for the slot of Nazim Town-IV.
The candidates came to the district and sessions courts for filing their papers in two separate processions. Large number of their supporters accompanied them, carrying posters and placards. The candidates for posts of nazim also submitted their respective manifestos with their nomination papers, which is mandatory under the law.
