PESHAWAR, Sept 9: The Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) on Friday seized a large quantity of arms, ammunition and narcotics from a vehicle left behind by smugglers after an exchange of fire on the main Grand Trunk Road near Chamkani. According to an official statement, the city police chief on a tip-off constituted a special team of CIA and tasked it to foil the smuggling attempt from a tribal area.
The CIA team erected a barricade on the GT Road near Chamkani. At 10am, the team signalled a car bearing fake government registration number to stop. But the driver accelerated the speed and also opened fire on the police.
The police returned the fire, but the smugglers managed to escape in the fields after leaving the car on the roadside.
The CIA team during a search of the car recovered six rockets, six fuses with detonators, eight hand-grenades, 40kg of hashish, 20kg of opium and three bogus government vehicle number plates.
The smugglers were later identified as Rafiullah and Sayed Nawab and the police were on their hunt.
Zafar Ali, a resident of Degankhel village of Mardan district, was owner of the car used by smugglers.
KILLED: A young man killed his brother over domestic issue in Badhu Samabagh village in Faqirabad locality on Friday.
Sheikh Yousuf told police that his son Rizwan Ullah had been admonishing his brother Tehseen Ullah for quite some time to do a job and contribute to the family income.
On Friday morning, Rizwan again started discussing the issue with Tehseen who wanted to get married at the earliest. The two exchanged hot words following which Rizwan pulled out a pistol and shot Tehseen dead.
Police have started investigation and search for the accused.
