KARACHI, Sept 8: Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and secretary general of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, said on Thursday that a “successful strike” on Friday would be seen as a public rejection of the country’s rulers. It would also “prove that the masses stand with the opposition”, Maulana Fazl told party workers at Karachi airport following his return from a week-long tour of Iran.

In the face of petroleum price rises, unconstitutional measures and establishment of contacts with Israel against the principled stand and aspirations of people, he said the only alternative left with the opposition was to approach the people’s court and take action against the rulers who were working against the interests of the nation.

Maulana Fazl, who heads his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, said “an individual over and above all institutions” wanted to impose his own will on the nation and the country.

He said Pakistan was the outcome of sacrifices of millions of people and the opposition would not allow those sacrifices to go in vain.
