Credible deterrence in place: PM

ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday reiterated the government’s resolve to provide necessary resources for the defence of the country and said Pakistan would maintain minimum credible deterrence as a guarantee of peace in the region. Talking to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Ihsanul Haq, who called on him at the PM’s House, he said Pakistan was a peaceful country and it had no aggressive designs against anyone.

“But we will maintain minimum credible deterrence as a guarantee of maintaining peace in the region,” he said.

Emphasizing the need to introduce latest technology in the defence forces to meet the challenges of modern era warfare, he said the government would provide all necessary resources for the defence of the motherland.—APP
