PESHAWAR, Sept 8: The government approved on Thursday a pilot project known as ‘Inclusive Education for Physically Handicapped Children’. According to an official handout, the federal and provincial governments, with the assistance of the DFID and the World Bank, will jointly launch the project from Swabi district.
Under the scheme, five or six schools (for boys and girls) will be selected and a survey will be conducted in the premises and their ‘catchment areas’ so that physical and psychological weaknesses or disability of children studying there are ascertained.
Then the teachers of these schools will be provided proper training so that they help enable these children to keep pace with their peers in studies.
It may be mentioned that for the time being the pilot project will be limited to federal capital Islamabad and district Swabi.
The decision was taken on Thursday in a meeting between the NWFP Minister for Education, Maulana Fazle Ali Haqqani, and Ms Susan Hirshberg, Adviser on Inclusive Education for Directorate General of Special Education, Ministry of Social Welfare.
