KARACHI, Sept 8: The Sindh High Court issued the inspector-general of prisons a notice for in a petition against MQM (H) leader Afaq Ahmad’s apprehended transfer from the Central Prison, Karachi, to any other jail in the province.
Petitioner Akhlaq Jehan, mother of the detainee, submitted through Advocate Sohail Hameed that her son was facing trial in a Karachi court and under the law an accused could be detained at the jail nearest to the place of trial.
He could not be transferred to any other prison. She said her son has been implicated in a bogus case for victimization by his political rivals.
He was already facing an ordeal and she feared for safety of his life.
A division bench, comprising Justices Ghulam Rabbani and Azizullah M Memon, directed that notices be issued to the inspector-general of prisons and other jail officials for Sept 14.
