Tribesmen hand over two suspects

MIRAMSHAH, Sept 7: Tribesmen have handed over two men accused of involvement in the Sept 5 killing of three officials of the political administration of North Waziristan Agency.

The handover was made in response to a notice issued by the agency’s political agent to the Borakhel tribesmen. Elders of the tribe persuaded the two men to surrender to the administration and help avert a military offensive in the area.

“We have handed over two of our villagers to the political administration who are allegedly involved in the killing of political officials,” said Borakhel tribe leaders.

The local administration has jailed five khasadar officials on charges of dereliction of duty on the day when a tehsildar, moharir and two khasadars were gunned down in broad daylight.

The administration in Miramshah and Mirwali has imposed a complete ban on display of arms and issued shoot-at-sight directives against anyone found violating the ban.

Meanwhile, a high-intensity bomb exploded hours before the arrival of a military convoy in the Datakhel area. —Online
