KARACHI: The wooden floor of Islamia Club’s Majeed Khan Gymnasium that was partially damaged has been renovated recently.

Commissioned in the year 2000, the gymnasium had served as a venue to a large number of table tennis activities including several national championships.

“Due to its extensive usage the wooden floor had developed cracks in patches. [In view of this] repair work has been carried out with the financial support of philanthropist friend Asif Ismail, who is a former player, ” former international and secretary of the club Arif Khan said on Sunday.

Ismail, also a member of the club’s Board of Governors, came to the rescue by announcing to bear the cost [of the repair] during a BoG meeting, he added.

“Majeed Khan, the founder of the club, sacrificed his life for the game and now it’s time for us to repay, “Arif quoted Ismail as saying.

Meanwhile, Arif’s sibling Farid Khan, also a former player, who was here from the US on a private visit, contributed towards improving the sound system and toilets.

The national table tennis championship was supposed to take place at Islamia Club but was postponed due to Covid-19 outbreak. New dates for the event will be announced later.
