KARACHI, Sept 6: Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad on Tuesday expressed his profound grief over the demise of noted journalist and intellectual Hasan Abidi. In his condolence message, Ishratul Ibad paid tribute to the services of Mr Abidi. He prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

The chairman of Pakistan Academy of Letters, Iftikhar Arif, also expressed deep sorrow over the death of journalist, poet and writer Hasan Abidi.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday, Iftikhar Arif recounted the contributions of the deceased and said that he was a man of letters. Prayers were also offered for the departed soul during a condolence meeting held at the Academy, which was conducted by Resident Director Aga Noor Muhammad Pathan.

In his condolence message to Mrs Tahira Hasan Abidi, wife of Mr Abidi, Sir Syed university’s chancellor Z.A. Nizami expressed deep sorrow over the death of the eminent journalist.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant fortitude to bereaved family to bear the loss.

Expressing deep sorrow over the demise, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists’ president and secretary-general said that Hasan Abidi throughout his life fought for the freedom of press. His contribution to literature and poetry would always be remembered, they said.

Sindh Labour Minister Adil Siddiqui also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of Hasan Abidi.

Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoori) also expressed sorrow over the death of the veteran journalist. –- APP/PPI
