PESHAWAR, Sept 2: An Anti-Terrorism Court on Friday fixed September 12 for framing charges against 17 people, accused of ransacking a temple in Nowshera more than two months ago.

The accused, including some activists of the Jamaat-i-Islami, appeared before the court, presided over by Shahjee Rehman Khan, which provided relevant documents to them.

The accused are presently on bail after being released by the court following an agreement reached between the inhabitants of Nowshera Cantonment, where the Lamba Vera temple is located, and the members of the minority communities.

The NWFP government had also ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident, but in the light of the agreement, it had ordered stoppage of the inquiry on Aug 3.

A jirga was held on July 10 at the residence of Khirathi Lal, an elder of the Hindu community in Lal Kurti, Nowshera Cantonment.

In the jirga, the representatives of both the sides had forgiven each other and requested police to withdraw the cases registered in that regard.
