KARACHI: 46 more drivers arrested

KARACHI, Jan 17: The traffic police on Thursday rounded up 46 more drivers on charges of negligence and rash driving during their ongoing drive against traffic violations.

This brings the total number of such drivers nabbed this month to 428.

According to the available figures, 119 were rounded up from District East, 101 from West, 103 from South, 77 from Central and 28 from District Malir.

Out of the 46 drivers arrested on Thursday, seven were arrested from District East, 12 from West, 16 from South, 7 from Central and 4 from District Malir.

Cases have been registered against the drivers under section 279 PPC.

The special campaign was started on the directive of IG police Syed Kamal Shah, following some fatal accidents in the city.

The drive is part of a greater traffic improvement plan to be carried out by the traffic police department.

Under the plan, encroachments are being removed and certain roads are being declared model roads.—APP
