MULTAN, Aug 31: The local chapter of the Lahore High Court has fixed Sept 12 the next hearing date in an alleged bogus domicile case on the basis of which the head of Nishter Hospital’s radiology department has obtained the job.
The legal suit has been filed by Dr Tanveer of the hospital’s radiology department challenging the appointment of Dr Mehboob Husain as head of the department on the ground of tendering a ‘fake’ domicile and not fulfilling the experience criteria.
The applicant has made respondents the health department, the Nishter Hospital and the medical college management. A representative of the NMC&H turned up to court on Wednesday only to request for some time to submit the reply saying the court notice reached the hospital management as late as on Tuesday evening.
The petitioner has alleged that Dr Mehboob had submitted the ‘fake’ domicile certificate of being a resident of Multan district as it was prerequisite of the job while actually he belongs to Karachi.
Similarly, the FCPS post experience was required to qualify for the job. But, Dr Mehboob was appointed as head of the department on a one-year contract the same year in 2004 when he completed his FCPS. The contract can be extended for another term of four years.
The applicant further alleged that the doctor with fake domicile enjoyed the backing of a senior NMC&H official as he worked at a private MRI facility owned by the Nishter’s big gun.
The NMC&H board of management has also constituted a two-member committee to probe the allegations levelled by Dr Tanveer. The committee comprises Prof Dr Laiq Husain and Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal Bodla. The committee has reportedly sought report from the domicile branch of the office of the district coordination officer.
