Kumail-Anwar grab pairs contest

KARACHI, Aug 30: Kumail Habib-Anwar Gheewala clinched the Karachi Bridge Association pairs contest by an impressive score of 64.19 per cent, says a press release on Tuesday.

Penalizing the opponents with adventurous bidding and sound dummy play, Kumail-Anwar earned 11 to top a field of 24 pairs.

They netted 13 tricks and the other top, defeating 3NT iron-clad contract by their excellent defence.

Fazle Ahmed-Tazeen Nehal finished runner-up with a score of 59.71 per cent with the aid of seven top scores. Ahmed Hameed-Farhat Abbas scored 55.9 percent for the third spot.

From the other direction Zia-Hamid put up impressive show to win by 61.63 per cent. S P Jamal-Taqi Reza was runner-up with 59.71 per cent and S M Ozair-Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed with 57.11 per cent made it to the third spot.—APP
