Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a high-level meeting on the steps taken in various departments in light of the challenge presented by the coronavirus.

According to the Prime Minister's Office, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Sania Nishtar gave a briefing on the steps taken to provide relief to the weaker segments of the country. The prime minister is expected to announce the steps.

During the meeting, the advisor on trade said that as per the prime minister's instructions all large factory owners have been instructed to ensure payment of salaries to employees. Additionally, the steps to protect employees in small and medium size enterprises are being finalised on the basis of mutual consultations.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Imran said that today the country is facing a situation for which there is no example in the past.

He said that during this difficult time, government institutions need to play a further dynamic role, adding that the government will take all steps that can provide relief to the people and departments.

Prime Minister Imran said that along with the coronavirus the country has to face challenges such as poverty.
