KRL 2…………………………KPT 0
HBL 2…………………………Wapda 2
KARACHI, Aug 29: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) handed a 2-0 defeat to Karachi Port Trust (KPT) with brilliant strikes by Qadeer and Mudassir in the Premier League soccer at CDGK Stadium on Monday.
KPT were guilty of missing a great chance when a Lal Bukhsh pass was wasted in the 25th minute by Fareed Majeed who shot wide, although he had all the time with KRL goalkeeper Asim stranded.
Asim was alert under the bar when Lal Bukhsh tried from 18 metres with a strong drive in the 40th minute.
Qadeer was on target in the first half stoppage time with a 16-metre shot past KPT goalkeeper Zulfiqar Ali.
It was an excellent effort that saw Mudassir scoring the second in the 62nd minute following some hard work by Qadeer, as the ball hit the bar before landing into the cage while the two KPT defenders tried in vain to clear the danger.
KPT though tried through Lal Bukhsh but his weak effort was too easy to handle for Asim in the 65th minute. As part of usual strategy, KPT bench officials ordered playmaker Abdul Khaliq in the 65th minute.
But it was too late an act by the KPT coach as Khaliq, who had scored match-winners in KPT’s 1-0 victories against PTCL and Pakistan Army earlier, could not repeat his feat this time as the losers struggled throughout the first half but remained empty-handed.
Mudassir once again threatened KPT defences when he penetrated into the KPT half but could not find the net box after a timely tackle by a KPT defender in the 67th minute.
KRL squandered a clear-cut opening when Mohammad Ali Sr, with two defenders chasing and KPT custodian Zulfiqar 14 metres outside from his line, made a dash and acted too early.
KPT’s Fareed Majeed was yellow carded while Naseer Ahmad will miss the next match after a one-match suspension following his second yellow of the league.
Shahid Saleem grabbed a second half equaliser to help Habib Bank (HBL) force a 2-2 draw with Wapda at Aga Khan Gymkhana.
Zulfiqar opened the scoring for Wapda in the 37th minute which was cancelled out by HBL’s Nazir Ahmad in the 57th minute.
Wapda again went ahead with a Khuda Bukhsh goal in the 71st minute before Shahid pulled the leveller six minutes later.
Tuesday’s fixture: NBP v Afghan Club at CDGK Stadium.
