LAHORE, Aug 29: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has constituted a high-level committee to review admission policy for medical colleges and increased quota for special students from 12 per cent to 16 per cent.

The committee comprises representatives of the King Edward Medical College, Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Dental College, Lahore; Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Rawalpindi Medical College, Quaid-i-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur; Shaikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan; University of Health Sciences and the health department.

Presiding over a meeting here on Monday, the chief minister said the admission on merit had helped improve the standard of medical education in the country. He said seats reserved for students of southern Punjab had helped reduce the sense of deprivation from among their residents. He said that 28 seats had been reserved in medical colleges of the province for the students of Rajanpur, Lodhran, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Bhakkar and Layyah.

One seat each had been increased in the King Edward Medical College and Allama Iqbal Medical College for students of northern areas.
