A statement issued following a consultative session between President Arif Alvi, governors and ulema said that during the meeting, the situation arising from Covid-19 was discussed and the president sought the cooperation of the ulema to raise awareness among the masses about the pandemic.

According to a press release issued by the president's secretariat, the president urged the ulema to advise and educate people to stay indoors and offer prayers in their homes.

"The president highlighted the preventive measures which needed to be taken by the people to stop spreading the disease," the statement read, adding that Alvi emphasised that the only solution was to maintain social distancing and act upon guidelines provided by Islam to cope with such a situation.
