LAHORE, Aug 28: Fancied chestnut gelding, Lucky Murad, delighted punters winning the feature event, the Raiwind Plate, a Class IV Division I & II handicap race, run over the sprinting distance of 1200m at the Racecourse on Sunday.
The 80 to 100 favourite, trained by Mohammad Hanif was steered by the riding boy Azhar Hussain.
The gelding simply ran away from his nine rivals at the final bend to win by five lengths from his pursuers.
Aya Chandiwala and Ponche completed the frame. The winner clocked one minute 14 4/5 second handily.
A race earlier, fancied red-roan filly Key Guy Doll, representing owner-trainer M. Hanif, as predicted, outclassed her five rivals by storming home to an easy success in the class V race.
Jockey M. Zeeshan rode her.
The filly was beaten on her previous outing but she made amends to win his engagement on Sunday. She beat bay colt Unter by five lengths.
Incidentally both filly and the colt are from English sire Key Guy out-of different broodmares.
The victories of Daring Bulbul, Key Guy Doll and Lucky Murad gave trainer M. Hanif a profitable treble.
Bay filly My Love won the opener to make it two in-a-row under her regular partner in the saddle apprentice Ahmad Shah. Daring Bulbul, who was not given a free ride by jockey A. Aziz in her last outing, performed in a totally different way and win easily the second race under the riding boy Azhar Hussain.
The riding boy M. Hussain partnering Royal Performance ran in a right royal manner winning the third race while his task was made much easier by Hussain’s brother, riding boy Azam Hussain, who rode Savera indifferently like a novice.
Among the riders, Azhar Hussain gave a fine performance riding home two winners.
He first partnered Daring Bulbul and then Lucky Murad in the feature and last race of the day.
In between the races a meeting of the stewards was held to go through the agenda drawn for the day in which matters pertaining to horse-racing and the club were decided. In the absence of LRC chairman Tariq Aziz, the senior steward Brig (retd:) Aihjaz Hussain presided over the meeting attended by Sheikh Sajjad Hasan, Malik Ghulam Nabi, Mian Abdul Waheed, Masood Pervaiz and LRC secretary Ata Ali Khan.
