KARACHI, Aug 28: Fourth seed Imran Shahzad got off to a sterling start in the 14th Style Cup national ranking snooker tournament smashing a break of 107 in his 4-1 win over Arshad Siddiq at Area Snooker Club, Gizri on Sunday.
Imran, who represented Pakistan in the last year’s Asian snooker championship in Jordan, looked in terrific form as he carved breaks of 70 and 44 in the opening frame and wrapped up the match in style with a break of 107 in the final frame.
Sindh’s Vishan Gir, who has slipped to 28th from being one of top eight in the country in national rankings, recovered after dropping opening two frames to surprise 7th seed Inamur Rehman of NWFP 4-3.
Vishan made a sluggish start but soon turned 0-2 deficit into 2-2 by grabbing the following two frames. He lost the fifth but snatched the next two to emerge winner.
Fifth seed Atiq Latif Bakhsh faced stiff resistance from Muhammad Baqar to clinch an exciting 4-3 win. Like Vishan, Atiq also lost the first two frames before he bounced back.
Top seed and defending champion Saleh Muhammad made a fine start by routing Muhammad Jamshed of Sindh 4-0. The score was laced with a break of 71 in the third frame.
Second seed Muhammad Yousuf lost two frames before overcoming Irfan Rasheed Khan 4-2. Naveen dropped the second frame before racing to 4-1 win against Waqas Malik.
