RAWALPINDI, Aug 28: Even intervention by presidents George Bush and Pervez Musharraf has failed to help recover a World Bank security guard who went missing in Rawalpindi last April, as the police say “hopes of finding him are fading”.

Saqib Jameel Ahmed, who had been living with his parents in Virginia, US, for eight years, went missing on April 17 from Arya Mohallah after reaching the city to take part in his sister’s wedding set for April 20.

His mother told Dawn that Saqib was at home when his ex-employee Matloob and ex-business partner Imran Chaudhry called him out and drove him away.

After a three-day search, his father Jameel Ahmed lodged an FIR with the city police.

“I beseech whoever is keeping my son to release him. His brothers, sisters, wife and a three-year-old daughter have been waiting for him,” the woman said.

She said she had written to President Bush, President Musharraf and to Pakistani embassy in the US, seeking their help in the recovery of her son.

While the US police had been very cooperative, she said, the authorities she was referred to by the Pakistani consulate were of no help.

“I went to the interior ministry as advised to see a lady officer, Amina Baloch, but she was not available. Later, I was referred to another officer, Amina Amir Khan, who also was not available.”

She said she was also disappointed by the city police station Rawalpindi. “My tears and misery moved nobody there, because the accused are more influential,” she said.

When contacted, the SHO city, Raja Faiz, said police had been hunting the accused. However, he said, “hopes of finding the missing man are fading”.
