SUKKUR Oct 14. Over 15 social organizations of Ghotki have announced to launch a movement against the industrial concerns operating in the district for violating environmental laws, neglecting the locals in provision of jobs, and also not spending the budget on the civic development of the district.
These companies include Tullo Power Plant, Mari Gas, Liberty Power Plant, Engro Chemical and Pak Saudi Fertilizer.
The participants represented Aurat foundation, Jakarta forum, rural development foundation, Bhitai development and environmental society, and others.
The participants said that there were five major international standard industrial units in the district which were earning billions in the region.
They deplored that their presence had little utility for the betterment of the district. On the other hand, emission of poisonous industrial waste from these units was causing environmental problems to the people.
It was unanimously decided to set up basic rights network, and also to hold a seminar on October 28 at Ghotki to go ahead with the task.
KIDNAPPED: A husband and wife were kidnapped from the kutcha area of Ghotki by a gang of armed dacoits.
According to reports Ms Haseena and Ali Bakhsh Mirbahar were fishing near a forest of Mirpur Mathelo when armed men kidnapped the couple overpowered them on gunpoint.
No FIR has yet been lodged with police.
UPLIFT PLAN: District Ghotki Nazim Sardar Ali Gohar Mahar has said that a package would be announced soon to control the growing menace of kidnappings, dacoities and other crimes in the district.
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a model school in Daharki to be built jointly by an MNC and the citizens foundation (TCF).
He lamented despite several multinational companies doing hugely profitable activity in oil, gas and fertilizers sector here, the district’s civic condition had remained poor.
The Nazim urged the multinational companies operating in the district to participate in the socio-economic uplift of the area. He said there should be a permanent solution of dacoits’ menace.
