HARIPUR: The Haripur police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly raping a teenage girl.

Officials of the Beer police station said they had obtained a two-day physical remand of the suspected rapist from the court of the judicial magistrate for further investigations.

The police quoted the victim, 18, a resident of Alooli village, as saying that some nine months ago when her mother was out grazing goats in the nearby hills a cousin of her entered the house and raped her at gunpoint.

She said she was alone at home at that time.

The girl told the police that when she tried to put up resistance the man threatened her of dire consequences. She said her cousin started visiting her home afterwards and raped her intermittently till a couple of days ago when her condition worsened.

The girl said her widowed mother took her to a private hospital where a lady doctor disclosed that she was nine months pregnant and her delivery was expected within next few days.

The police registered FIR against the suspected rapist on the complaint of the girl’s mother under sections 376 and 506 of the PPC, and later arrested him.

The officials said that it was the second incident of similar nature reported from the remote areas of the district during a week’s time.
