PESHAWAR, Aug 25: A girl was shot dead by her father over suspicion that she was waving to someone from the roof of their home in the Azam Khan town of Daudzai area on the outskirts of the city on Thursday.

Police arrested the man with the gun used in the crime, said police officials.

The family of Fazlur Rehman, a peasant, had gone to attend a wedding ceremony in a nearby village and left 16-year-old Razia at home.

In the afternoon, Fazlur Rehman was cutting grass in nearby fields when he saw the girl waving to someone from the roof of the house, they said.

Fazlur Rehman immediately came to the house and asked Razia to whom she was waving. As she could not give a satisfactory reply, Fazlur Rehman pulled out a gun and shot her dead.—Correspondent
