PESHAWAR, Aug 24: The government has approved a plan of over Rs900 million to revamp the system of technical education and vocational training in the province. The Asian Development Bank has pledged Rs35 million for the project named ‘Restructuring of Technical Education and Vocational Training System’ for the current fiscal year.

The ADB has committed Rs634.66 million for the project while the local component will be Rs272 million.

Official sources in the manpower directorate said on Wednesday that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council had accorded approval to the project under which the government-run polytechnic institutes and vocational training centres would be equipped with latest machinery, computers and other facilities.

Teachers would be imparted training in order to improve their skills.

Meanwhile, Rs36.47 million has been allocated for improving the Information Technology facilities and strengthening IT programmes in the Government Commerce Colleges and Government Commercial Training Centres.

The federal government has sanctioned Rs27.35 million for this project while the NWFP government will be providing Rs9.11 million for the purpose.

The government has also approved construction of a hostel for teachers of Government Commercial Training Institute and Government Technical and Vocational Centre at Bannu.—APP
