ISLAMABAD, Aug 24: Rejecting government’s claims about holding free and fair first phase of the local body elections, JI secretary-general Syed Munawar Hasan on Wednesday said that the combined opposition would adopt a unified line of action after the second phase.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here, the Jamaat-i-Islami leader alleged that at a meeting at a girls’ college in Lahore some 700 presiding officers had been told by authorities concerned that they were bound to help official candidates in the local council polls.

JI Karachi Amir Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui was also present at the press conference.
