KARAK: The Khattak Ittehad, a local rights organisation, has expressed concerns over the increasing incidents of gas leakage in the district, saying there is no burns centre in the district headquarters hospital.

A meeting of the organisation was held here on Sunday with retired Captain Ahmad Jan in the chair. The participants of the meeting said that the gas leakage incidents were on the rise in the district.

They said that three such incidents took place within three weeks that claimed precious lives.

They expressed concerns over absence of burns centre in the district headquarters hospital and said that many lives could be saved as the victims were not provided with timely treatment.

The participants of the meeting said that government and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines failed to provide legal gas connections to consumers as people got illegal gas connections that caused leakage incidents.

Rights body voices concern over gas leakage incidents in the district

They demanded of the government to provide legal gas connections to local people and establish a burns centre in the district headquarters hospital. They threatened to stage protest if government failed to establish a burns centre in the district within a month.

RALLY: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s district general secretary Rafiullah Khattak and office-bearers of literary organisations including Lawagher Adabi Karwan and Tulu Adabi Sanga have demanded of the government to make Pashto medium of instruction in the educational institutions.

Speaking at a rally held in connection with the International Mother Language Day in Khurram area, they asked the government to give due status to all the regional languages. They regretted that there was no patronage of regional languages on part of the government.

At the concluding session, the speakers asked the faithful to focus on their personal purification and devote their lives for benefiting the fellow Muslims to make the society a peaceful abode for human beings.

They urged them to spread the teachings of Islam to ensure peace and tranquility in the society. They said that Islam was the religion of peace and required its followers to be kind with the rest of humans irrespective of cast and creed.
