KARACHI, Aug 23: The Pakistan Railways (PR) has failed to facilitate train passengers and properly guide them about arrival and departure timings of trains at the Landhi railway station from where the train operation is being carried out.
The PR has been temporarily operating trains from the Landhi station after the Malir Railway Bridge was damaged by derailment of a Lahore-bound goods train on Sunday.
The wreckage of the damaged wagons was removed on Tuesday from the bridge. PR Divisional Superintendent (Karachi) Junaid Qureshi said that cranes did not find enough space to lift the wreckage from the bridge, which had delayed the process of its removal from the tracks.
The down-track had been cleared and was ready for train operation, he said, adding that the PR would start train operations from the Cantonment and City railway stations late on Tuesday night.
He said that the up-track had been badly damaged and efforts were being made to repair it by Wednesday afternoon.
About the opinion of the inquiry team, he said that the team had arrived but could not initiate inquiry owing to repair work on the bridge. He said that the team members to interview some officials who were busy in repairing the track. The team would start inquiry on Wednesday.
However, Mr Qureshi claimed that many people had heard the sound of explosion. He had earlier said that it was an act of sabotage but police had ruled out the possibility of bomb explosion after their initial inquiry into the incident.
