KARACHI: Despite the passage of two months to the demise of senior rider Mohammad Nasir — who died after falling off his horse Thunder King on Dec 22, — his family awaits the insurance dues, Dawn learnt on Thursday.

“The widow of the deceased rider and her five young children are eagerly waiting to get the dues and make ends meet as Nasir was the sole bread earner of the family,” the sources said.

Responding to a letter of private insurance firm dated Feb 10 seeking further details, the Karachi Race Club (KRC) has clarified that it had already submitted the death certificate, copy of rider’s valid license and copy of Dawn’s clipping of Dec 23 pertaining to the incident.

The KRC has further clarified that neither autopsy nor post-mortem of the deceased was conducted as it was a race-related incident and not a police case so the need of an FIR doesn’t arise.

The KRC urged the insurance firm to expedite the case as deceased heirs including minor children needs urgent financial support. Besides the rider’s insurance amount of Rs400,000, the KRC has raised a reasonable amount courtesy turf accountants, contemporary jockeys in the country and abroad, friends etc and plans to present a purse of approximately rupees one million.
