KARACHI: Suspected bandit shot dead

KARACHI, Aug 23: Police shot dead a suspected bandit and arrested his accomplice in PECHS early on Tuesday morning. Police said that two policemen on a motorcycle were passing through Delhi Sweets in PECHS Block-6 when they were informed that some armed men are committing a dacoity in a hotel.

The policemen entered the hotel, but they were shot at. The police returned the fire, killing a suspect on the spot.

His accomplice was arrested with a cab (JN-0478) from outside the hotel.

Police claimed recovery of stolen goods, including cell phones and cash from his possession.

ROBBED: A Dawn staffer was deprived of valuables on M R Kyani Road by armed suspects Tuesday evening.

Two armed suspects on a motorcycle intercepted Bahzad Alam Khan, who was at the pavement ahead of Hindu Gymkhana.

The suspects took his digital camera, cassette recorder and note book. The reporter was heading in pursuit of his professional duties.

SEIZED: The Anti-Narcotics Force on Tuesday foiled attempts to smuggle in narcotics in the city and seized 40 kgs of heroin and 2.5 maunds of hashish and arrested six accused.
