KOHAT/MARDAN: The Kohat and Mardan police on Sunday arrested four persons, including a cop, for smuggling weapons.

A car was stopped for checking at the Gulshanabad checkpost on the Indus Highway, and upon search, 45 pistols of different bores and 3,300 cartridges were recovered.

The arms were being smuggled from Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision to the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, DSP city Bashir Dad told a news conference. He identified the carriers as a policeman, Adnan, and Aman Khan.

The policeman was suspended and a departmental inquiry initiated against him. The police officer said this was the fifth consecutive case in which a policeman had been held while smuggling weapons.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Maltoon police stopped a car for checking on Mardan-Nowshera Road and recovered 45 pistols of different bores.

Mardan DPO Sajjad Khan told mediapersons that two smugglers were also arrested belonging to Skhakot. He said the arms were being smuggled from Peshawar to Malakand division.
