KARACHI, Aug 22: The Sindh Ombudsman, Yusuf Jamal, directed the registration of an FIR in a maid servant’s rape case. He also directed the DIG operation to suspend the concerned duty police officer for registering a false FIR and institute an inquiry against him.

According to details, the victim was employed as a maid servant by one Ms Anis Ahsan w/o Saeed Ahmed Shah, residing in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

According to the terms of employment, the complainant was required to stay in the house during the night as well.

After only three days of employment, the complainant alleged, three persons came into the house on the night of July 9 and 10 and raped her in connivance with the employer’s son.

On raising hue and cry, the employer had an FIR registered against the victim on theft charge for which bribe was paid to the duty officer.

The FIR said that robbers were arrested from the spot and one of them was husband of the complainant and the other was his friend. However, complaint of the victim was not entertained.

The employee approached the Sindh Ombudsman who ordered an inquiry by Bakhshal Khan Gadaro, DG Mohtasib Secretariat.

Mr Gadaro conducted an inquiry and recorded statements of the victim, her woman employer and witnesses in the FIR and submitted report to the Muhtasib.

The report said that a false FIR was registered against the maid servant as the incident was not confirmed by witnesses in the FIR, nor any arrest was made from the spot nor the victim was medically examined.

In the light of the report, the Sindh Mutasib directed the DIG operation to suspend the concerned police officer and asked the Jauhar Police Station to register the victim’s FIR.—APP
