ISLAMABAD, Aug 21: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Abdul Hameed Dogar has directed candidates to stop holding street corner meetings and running election campaigns 24 hours before the polling for the second phase of the local government elections on Thursday.

“The election campaigns ….. shall come to an end …. from the midnight between August 23 and 24,” stated an official announcement issued here on Sunday.

The CEC has again asked the candidates and their supporters to exercise self-restraint to ensure peaceful conclusion of the polls.

STATEMENT OF ASSETS: The CEC has asked members of parliament and provincial assemblies to submit annual statements of their assets and liabilities and those of their spouses and dependents to the Election Commission by Sept 30.

The statements will be published in the official gazette and their copies can be obtained on payment of the prescribed fee.
